Cargo is a separate animal shipment
Cargo transport uses the selected provider’s shipment process rather than an in-cabin pet reservation or a checked pet attached to a passenger ticket. Pickup and collection may take place at cargo facilities instead of the passenger terminal. Your coordinator helps clarify who handles each stage of the proposed trip.
Confirm eligibility before arranging transport
Share the species, breed, age and size of your pet, the number of animals, kennel measurements, origin, destination and dates. The provider reviews restrictions for the animal and the actual route, aircraft and weather. Cargo does not bypass breed or medical restrictions.
For Alaska routes, review the current Alaska Air Cargo Pet Connect program. It distinguishes cargo shipments from pets traveling with passengers and publishes kennel, health-document and weather requirements. Other domestic proposals must be checked against their own provider’s rules.
Preparation and collection
Confirm who supplies the travel kennel, veterinary records and shipment paperwork, who delivers the pet to the acceptance location, and who collects it after release. Review veterinary suitability and document timing before travel. Agree on care arrangements during any connection and on a plan if the itinerary changes.
Keep the shipment reference and receiving contact available. Ask whether transport ends at a cargo facility or includes a separately coordinated drive to the final address.
What your quote should include
Ask for the full trip price: Pet Commute coordination, transport or escort costs, applicable airline charges, any airport driving, and any kennel or preparation expenses. Confirm payment recipients and dates in your own quote and invoice. A starting setup fee is not the complete transport price.
Pet Commute is a brokerage coordinating with independent transportation professionals. Your coordinator connects the planning and handoff contacts; the airline decides whether the animal and itinerary meet its acceptance rules.
Compare the same journey
Review checked-pet escort, in-cabin flight nanny and ground transportation when comparing costs and handoff responsibilities. Use our checked pet versus cargo guide and quote checklist to compare complete proposals.
