Checked pet is different from in-cabin travel
Pet Commute’s checked-pet escort option is arranged on Alaska Airlines. The escort accompanies the journey as a passenger while the pet travels in an eligible kennel in the aircraft’s baggage compartment. The pet is not in the passenger cabin, and the escort cannot access it during the flight.
Alaska describes its pet baggage compartment as climate-controlled. Space and acceptance depend on the actual flight, aircraft, breed and travel restrictions. An available passenger seat does not establish available pet space.
Start with the pet, kennel and route
Share the pet’s species, breed, age and size, kennel measurements, pickup and destination airports, and preferred dates. Your coordinator can discuss the proposed escort, check-in and collection plan. Have the airline’s current rules reviewed before treating the itinerary as confirmed.
Ask who provides the kennel and records, who meets the escort, and whether local driving is included. Review health-document requirements with the airline, your veterinarian and the assigned transportation professional.
Airport handoffs and updates
Agree on where the pet is checked in and collected, who can receive it, and how the sender, receiver, escort and coordinator communicate. Flight arrival and release of the pet are separate steps; allow for the airline’s handling process.
What your quote should include
Ask for the full trip price: Pet Commute coordination, transport or escort costs, applicable airline charges, any airport driving, and any kennel or preparation expenses. Confirm payment recipients and dates in your own quote and invoice. A starting setup fee is not the complete transport price.
Pet Commute is a brokerage coordinating with independent transportation professionals. Your coordinator connects the planning and handoff contacts; the airline decides whether the animal and itinerary meet its acceptance rules.
Compare other options
A small pet with suitable carrier fit may qualify for in-cabin flight nanny travel. A shipment without an accompanying passenger is a different cargo arrangement. Shared or private ground transport may fit routes or pets that are not eligible for the proposed flight.
